“I WAKE TO THE EVERYDAY”
I wake to the everyday
rain
that drizzles down on me
like the old man spitting
from his upstairs balcony;
ignorant of my existence.
Enduring this
as long as I did;
it's why I have
the strength
to be where I am
again.
I wake to the everyday
with no delusion
that this is my dream.
The cat lays perched
on a sill,
staring out at a fence
and a stucco wall
behind it.
Is she waiting for a bird?
I wonder, dropping
a chunk of meat into her
bowl.
